ICD-10-CM

The diagnosis code you use is the most important part of your medical documentation. Failure to code correctly can impact reimbursement for your services.

In health care, diagnosis codes are used as a tool to group and identify the reason(s) for patient encounters and the treatment dispensed by physicians to treat the patient based on the physician's diagnosis. Therefore, the diagnosis code is the most important code that is assigned to any medical service, because it establishes the medical necessity for the patient's visit, any procedure performed, any diagnostic study ordered, and so forth. ICD-10 codes have a high degree of specificity and leave little room for interpretation regarding the reason for the medical visit.
